I can't believe that I am getting ready to go to Kenya. The first leg of the trip, from Detroit to Amsterdam, starts in less than two hours! I have everything that I need. Now I just need to relax and get ready for this amazing journey. Before I close this short entry, I must add a thought on what I want to get out of this trip. Mainly, I want to see the WFP programs in action. I want to share what I see with people in my community. I hope that I can raise awareness and create a sense of urgency.

I was reading an article this morning from the Indianapolis News that discussed the AMPATH (Academic Model for Prevention and Treatment of HIV) program run by Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya. AMPATH conducts HIV testing and provides medical treatment to those who are HIV positive. In partnership with the World Food Program, nutrition is provided for all of the patients who are receiving antiretroviral (ARV) medications. WFP realizes that nutrition is crucial in overcoming HIV/AIDS. Without the correct nutrition, ARVs are not as effective and can often make a patient even sicker. Some who suffer from HIV/AIDS may even stop taking their medication because it takes such a destructive toll on their bodies. Programs such as AMPATH give those with HIV/AIDS
hope. WFP’s HIV/AIDS and Nutrition programs provide patients with a portion of
food when they go to pick up their ARVs, helping to ensure they will be on the
quickest path to recovery. Will you participate in BloggersUnite on December 1?
